Enjoy abundant fishing plus other recreation in Missinipe in Northern Saskatchewan.
Thompson’s Camps is located on Otter Lake in the townsite of Missinipe, which is 80 km (50 miles) north of La Ronge on the Can-Am #2 highway. Walleye, northern pike and yellow perch abound in Otter Lake due to the cold moving water of the Churchill River system.
Choose your own adventure
at Thompson’s Camps Otter Lake Resort
Walleye, northern pike or perch are the main species on Otter Lake. Head out on the water in one of our fishing boats available to rent. Gasoline, fishnets, life jackets and a fish tub are all included.
Venture beyond Otter Lake, if you choose, to other areas of the Churchill River, multiple fly-out lakes, three outpost camps or numerous portage-in lakes and rivers. Set a budget and leave it to us.
Guides can take you to more than just where the fish are biting. This is where history and nature combine. View rock paintings by indigenous ancestors, and spot wildlife such as black bears, moose, bald eagles, beavers and others.
Enjoy the water in a canoe or kayak, snap photos during a hike, pick berries, or start a game of beach volleyball or swim at the sandy beach. In the winter, enjoy snowmobiling or snowshoeing. Everyone in your group will find something to love!
All the time spent outdoors will stir up a heavy appetite. Enjoy a home-cooked meal, whether prepared by our gourmet chef or by you at your cabin.

“Everything from booking our trip to follow up before arrival, arrival and checkout went extremely well. The duplex that we stayed in was more than we expected and well set up. The housekeeping was also good. Fishing was terrific and the guide was professional, knowledgeable and an absolute joy to spend the two days with. Highly recommend a guide to begin the trip as the lake is like no other with all of its fingers, islands and rocky bottom. Beautiful!!!!”
“Great scenery, fishing, food and accommodation in a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. The staff were friendly, courteous and helpful. The shore lunches were spectacular with perfectly cooked walleye hardly 10 minutes out of the water! What more do you need to know before you book? Nothing!”
“First time there and very impressed. We will be going back. The scenery was awesome, the fishing was great and our guide was the best. So was the shore lunch. Always wanted to go fishing in the north.”
“We were a party of six and from the booking through to checkout, I can only say the service was professional. Thompson's Cabins were clean and comfortable and the staff (were) friendly and helpful. The meals at the Ottering Hole were superb and the shore lunches cooked by the guides were delicious. We had a great guide … Both Otter Lake and Mountain Lake are not only great to fish on but you really get to experience the Canadian Shield … What a way to experience this beautiful part of the world!”
“Had a fabulous 4 days and 3 nights at Thompson’s Camps. Went fishing with a guide, Dylan, who I highly recommend. He has all the equipment and it is top range stuff. We caught our limit by 10:30 (in the morning) and from then on it was catch and release. So, a half day fishing excursion is all you need. The resort itself is fine. The cabin had all we needed and was clean. If you are looking for a fishing experience in Canada -- as I was being from Australia -- then this is the place of choice.”
“This spot was chosen as a guys fishing/bonding trip. However, the wives and a toddler also came along. NO REGRETS. A wonderful spot for family. The scenery and wildlife were stellar. The fishing was good, even though we were late in the season. The cabin was clean and very comfy. The kitchen was well supplied for cooking … The camp had lots of non-fishing things to do with the kids. The staff were so welcoming and knowledgeable, never leaving us to feel hurried or worried. They helped us to feel relaxed and well attended to. Great cell phone reception there. Lovely little community (that) let us feel safe walking about and exploring. If you want to experience the Canadian Shield, try this spot.”
“From the spacious and well-kept cabin with all the amenities of home, to a view to be unequaled, with more fresh air than you can handle, all nestled in a location where you can still take a stroll in the evening and feel safe. We have been coming to Missinipe for more than 20 years and from the very outset, we were treated like family. This and the awesome fishing just keeps on calling us back.”
